PROSTHODONTICS is one of the branches of dentistry that deals with the replacement of missing teeth and the associated soft and hard tissues by prostheses (crowns, bridges, dentures) which may be fixed or removable, or may be supported and retained by implants.

A Prosthodontist is a specialist dentist who deals with the replacement of missing teeth and related mouth or jaw structures by bridges, dentures or prostheses. They receive an additional three years of training after dental school to specialize in this field.

BRIDGE

Unlike crowns which are single units, a bridge is made up of 2 or more units. It may be recommended :

Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth on either side of the missing tooth. As with crowns, there is a choice of materials for bridges.

CROWNS

CROWNS are fixed artificial teeth that deal with the restoration of damaged teeth. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which can be taken out and cleaned daily, these are cemented onto existing teeth and can only be removed by a dentist.

FIXED PROSTHODONTICS

The branch of Prosthodontics that deals with restoration of teeth using crowns, bridges, on lays, inlays and veneers.
The tooth/teeth are prepared by the Prosthodontist and an impression is made to capture this preparation which is then sent to the laboratory along with a detailed prescription.
The dental technician then fabricates the desired restoration as per the prescription. The finished product is then cemented in the mouth using various cements.

REMOVABLE PROSTHODONTICS

It is concerned with prosthesis which replace the soft tissues and teeth and are more commonly referred to as dentures.

COMPLETE DENTURE is a removable replacement of full complement of missing teeth. They are made of acrylic resin. Fabrication of complete dentures is an elaborate and technique sensitive procedure, meticulously carried out at THE BEST SMILES by our dedicated prosthodontists.

PARTIAL DENTURE is a removable replacement when few of the the teeth are missing.

IMPLANT PROSTHODONTICS

It is a substitute for the root of a tooth and is generally shaped as a screw or cylinder. A successful implant provides a stable and rigid structure for retention or support of a bridge, denture or a maxillofacial prosthesis.
